Study Overview: This study is comparing two devices used to help children breathe better when they have wheezing. One device is a nebulizer, which turns liquid medicine into a mist that is breathed in. The other is a metered-dose inhaler (MDI) with a spacer, which sprays a specific amount of medicine into the spacer, making it easier for the child to inhale.

Study Process: Children aged 6 to 24 months with wheezing will be randomly placed into two groups. Group A will receive nebulizer treatments, and Group B will use the MDI with a spacer. Each treatment will include three puffs of medicine every 20 minutes until the end of the session. The doctor will check if the child needs to be admitted to the hospital and record their breathing score, called a pulmonary index, at the end.

  • Participation is for children aged 6 to 24 months visiting the emergency room with wheezing.
  • Treatment involves multiple sessions with either a nebulizer or an MDI with a spacer.
  • Children with certain lung or heart conditions or very severe breathing problems cannot join.
