**High-flow Nasal Oxygenation Study** *General anesthesia* is when you are put into a deep sleep for surgery. *Atelectasis* means some areas of the lung collapse or do not inflate well. This often happens after anesthesia, especially for people who are *obese* (having a Body Mass Index or BMI of 30 or more). This study wants to see if using high-flow nasal oxygen (a special way to give extra oxygen through a tube in the nose) before putting someone to sleep can help keep the lungs open. **Key Points:** - The study is for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher having surgery under general anesthesia. - You cannot join if your surgery is less than 2 hours or if you have certain health issues. - Participants must agree and give their permission to join the study. This study might help you breathe better during and after surgery, but you should discuss with your doctor if it’s right for you.
