This study is looking at how to help people feel better about themselves after feeling embarrassed. The study will test three types of help: compassion-based (kindness towards oneself), logic-based (thinking things through), and a placebo control (a pretend help like listening to a story). To join, you must be a student at the University of Waterloo or an adult with a Prolific account. You need to understand English and listen to audio clips. If you repeat surveys or don’t finish important parts, you might be excluded.
- The study is online and happens in two parts.
- Participation includes short exercises, writing tasks, and listening to recordings.
- It helps researchers find better ways to help people with self-criticism and shame.
