The Effects of a Moderate Intensity Training Program Versus a High Intensity Training Program on Central Pain Processing

This study looks at how different exercise programs affect *pain processing* in healthy, inactive people. Pain processing includes how our body feels and reacts to pain. **Moderate Intensity Training (MIT)** involves exercise at a steady pace, while **High Intensity Training (HIT)** is more intense and involves bursts of hard exercise. The study will test which exercise type helps reduce pain sensitivity better.

Participants will wear a device called an **ActiGraph accelerometer** to track their physical activity for 7 days. Pain sensitivity will be measured through different tests, like pressure on muscles and using a device to send light electrical signals to nerves. Participants will then follow a 10-week exercise program and wear a **Fitbit smartwatch** to count their steps. After completing the program, activity and pain measurements will be repeated.

  • Study lasts for 10 weeks, with initial and final assessments at Ghent University Hospital.
  • Participants must be between 18-55 years old, with a BMI of 20-25 kg/m², and have a sedentary lifestyle.
  • No current pain or serious health conditions allowed; study involves some pain sensitivity tests.
