Monitoring Changes in Hepatic Steatosis Using Continuous Controlled Attenuation Parameter

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is when fat builds up in the liver and can cause liver damage. This study aims to compare two methods of measuring liver fat: Magnetic Resonance Imaging Proton Density Fat Fraction (MRI-PDFF) and a newer method called Continuous Controlled Attenuation Parameter (CAP). MRI-PDFF is considered the best way to measure liver fat, but it’s expensive and not always available. CAP is a newer, easier test that might be used instead.

The study involves 150 people with NAFLD joining a 6-month lifestyle program with diet and exercise changes. Participants will have four clinic visits over the study period. At these visits, they will have various tests, including blood tests and liver scans. The study will find out if CAP can effectively monitor liver fat changes compared to MRI-PDFF.
