This study looks at how much energy people with incurable cancer use while resting. This is called Resting Energy Expenditure (REE). Researchers will use a method called indirect calorimetry, which is a way to measure heat given off by the body to find out how much energy is used. They will compare this with predictions from equations to see how close they are. They also want to understand why some patients use more or less energy than expected. The study will look at information from patient records and measure energy use at one time. They will also keep track of how long patients live after the study.
- The study requires only one hospital visit for measurements.
- Participants must be 18 or older and able to consent.
- Patients with breathing support needs cannot participate.
