Effect of Massage and Foot Reflexology on Newborns' Sleep

This study is about how massage and foot reflexology might help preterm newborns sleep better. Preterm newborns are babies born before 37 weeks of pregnancy. They are often in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where they can be stressed from all the noise and lights. Massage involves soft rubbing to relax the baby, while foot reflexology is a type of massage applying pressure to the feet to help the body relax. The study will watch 105 babies to see if these methods improve their sleep.

  • Babies in the study will get massages or foot reflexology for 15 minutes, twice a day, for 2 days.
  • Only babies between 30-37 weeks of gestation with stable vital signs can join.
  • No extra medical procedures will be done, ensuring safety.

By examining sleep with a special device, researchers will learn if these methods help babies sleep better. This might make future care in NICUs more comforting for babies. If you have a baby in the NICU who fits the criteria, participating could help improve their rest and comfort.
