This study focuses on patients who need open aortic surgery, a procedure for treating issues with the large blood vessel in the abdomen called the aorta. Some patients have a condition called an aneurysm, which is when the aorta bulges out, or occlusive disease, which is when it gets blocked. These conditions are becoming more common, even with efforts to manage heart and blood vessel health.

Before surgery, doctors usually check the heart and lungs, but this study wants to look at the patient's overall health, or functional fragilities. This means understanding how strong and healthy a person is before surgery, which can help doctors make the surgery safer and recovery easier.

The study will collect information already gathered during routine care to create a risk scale. This will help doctors prepare patients better for surgery. You can join if you're having open aortic surgery. However, you can't participate if you don't want to.
