Study on Dental Implant Soft Tissue
This study focuses on peri-implant mucositis, a gum disease around dental implants. Over 20% of people with dental implants experience this condition. It's often linked to smoking and not maintaining the implant well. Healthy gums around an implant are crucial because thin gums (less than 2 mm) can lead to bone loss. A wider gum band helps protect the implant and reduce inflammation. If the gum band is less than 2 mm, you might experience discomfort when brushing and more plaque, which is sticky germs on teeth.
Soft tissue augmentation, which means adding more tissue, can help if there isn't enough gum around the implant. This procedure might be needed before any bone enhancement.
