This study looks at how the brain works during swallowing in people with a condition called Lateral Medullary Syndrome (LMS) who have trouble swallowing, known as dysphagia. We use a special tool called functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), which shines light into the brain to see activity and connections. The study compares people with LMS to healthy individuals.

If you're between 18-80 years old, right-handed, had a stroke confirmed as LMS, and have dysphagia, you may qualify. People with other nervous or mental illnesses, other swallowing disorders, or serious illnesses are not eligible. The goal is to compare brain activity during swallowing between those with LMS and healthy people. This study helps us understand more about swallowing difficulties in LMS.
